Comment: Hello! I started browsing your site after re-watching "Chariots of Fire" last evening with my husband. Eric Liddell is one of our heroes of the faith and there's just something about the image of the character who portrays Eric Liddell running that brings tears to my eyes and the thought that we Christians are all running in a race, pressing toward the mark!! Your site and facilities are very interesting--Wish we could visit!!

Comment: Having just visited Eric Liddell Centre in Edinburgh, have learned of the services, carers and projects offer such a wide range to fulfil the needs of the local elderly, young and needy people.
I myself was interned in Weihsien Concentration Camp for nearly 3 years. I was born in Tientsin, and was 3 months old when my family were interned. Eric Liddell baptised me in one of the camp kitchens, so I do have a strong affiliation with the memory of Eric Liddell.
Good to know that the Centre is doing such great work in memory of Eric Liddell.
Eric Liddell is a true Christian and hero we will never forget.

Comment: Thank you for this wonderful site. The first film I watched in my youth that made a huge impact on me personally was "Chariots of Fire". I did not have an idea then what christianity is all about. But God used Eric Liddel's life story to plant that seed in my heart so that in my later years during my college life I came to know of God's saving grace personally. Now I have come full circle as I study his life once again to design lessons for the kids in sunday school. His mission work in China has also come full circle as we now see the rise of Asia through the Beijing Olympics. All because of the seeds of blood by men like Eric Liddel, a Olympic hero who ran for a higher prize! I think that it will be just a matter of time when christians in China, India and other parts of Asia will bring forth full circle God's work on earth until the return of Jesus Christ. God bless your team immensely as you let Him work in you and through you!

Comment: Mr. Liddell's life was showcased on the Sunday morning TV show, Day Of Discovery, this past three weeks. Oh that more would live lives in complete submission to the Word of God, myself included.

I was able to visit Edinburgh in 1977 while in the US Air Force. What a beautiful city. If I am ever in the city again I shall stop in to see those colored windows.

Until then.

Comment: Just an enquiry really. My mother's name was Olive Mary Liddell Davies, her mother was Isabella Liddell who was born in Seahouses Northumberland, Isabella had several brothers and sisters, one of whom was called Sarah. Their father was something to do with fishing, I think he had his own fishing boat or boats. My mother used to talk of her Great-Uncle Andrew Liddell who was apparently the harbour master at Seahouses, and she used to talk of Eric as being a relation. My mother was born in 1916 in Huddersfield, and trained at Edinburgh Hospital as a nurse, she was attached to the Royal Red Cross during WW2. She used to talk of being disowned by her family as all of her three daughters, myself included were born out of wedlock, so I have little idea about her family. Have you any idea about Eric's wider family, even if it's to put this line of research to bed.
Thank you in anticipation.

Comment: I had seen the movie Chariots of Fire when I was a child. It was nothing much for me. Today I happened to come across Eric's biography. It has impacted me a lot.
By the way last year I had been to Tianjin, China. Only if I had known that Eric was born in Tianjin. His house is still there. I would have visited it.

I do not know if the movie covered his missionary life in China. A movie should be made to show this world how to live a true Christian life even in adversities. Reminds me of Corrie Ten Boom.

The world should know more about his Christian life.

Comment: What an inspiration Eric was as a human being, but more importantly as a disciple of Jesus Christ! I thank God for his testimony and may he continue to inspire others to live their lives for God! God bless!

Your brother in Christ

Comment: The movie "Chariots of Fire" continues to be one of all-time favorite films but the viewer must see between the lines as Harold Abrahams is fronted as the hero when actually he is not the real key figure. Eric Liddell is the one we should take inspiration from and not just for the temporal crowns achieved athletically but from his commitment to stand for the true God and for His Son, Jesus Christ. He will be rewarded for all eternity at the bema after our lord returns for the Church. My concern today is in the lack of Biblical and Scriptural teaching and instruction that is so desperately void in Europe. What would our brother Eric say if he were alive today? Romans 10:17 teaches that faith (our believing in God) cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. The only true memorial to Mr. Liddell is for us all to keep teaching from the Bible to young people. Is not it ironic that the Olympics are being held in one of the most godless nations, China, where 60+ years earlier, our Eric gave his life to teach, train, and minister! May this note inspire you to strengthen your work. God's best be yours.

Comment: Just been to a talk by a former maths teacher at Eltham College who made a 15 minute cine film on life at the college in 1964.

Read the small book on the achievements of Eric. Never knew what a kind and hard working man he was in his short life.

His name lives on by the Eric Liddell Sports Centre at the college.

Good wishes with the work at Edinburgh.

Comment: As I see our changing world political climate I asked myself, what would Eric Liddle do? His stance to not compromise his beliefs could serve as a reminder for current athletes to draw comfort from. Would Mr. Liddell participate where the host country promotes horrific human rights practices? It's hard to know but he may have been drawn but only for his beloved China. May his spirit live in Bejing. Thank you.

Comment: Thank you for this site. I hope that the work that Eric Liddel did, particularly in telling others the Good News and living out a Christlike life, will be continued at your centre for many years to come.

The testimonies from people who knew him were particularly poignant for me. Especially those that knew him during the POW years.

I was researching Mr Liddel's life for a series we are doing with our youth group. So far, I am sure that I have watched Chariots of Fire about 20 times. I am glad to be able to find more information about the great blessing he has been to the Chinese people, on your site. Also I was greatly encouraged to read about the love that Mr Liddel had for young people. I pray that this will be an inspiration to the young people that I serve.

God bless and lead you x

Comment: It was a wonderful surprise to read your page on Eric Liddell.

Sir John Liddell, (21 March 1794 - 28 Mai 1868) who is my Greatgreatgrandfather, was born in Dunblane, Scotland. He became the director general of the medical department of the royal navy. I wonder whether Eric was a relative of his (and me)?
God bless, Peter

Comment: Having watched 'Chariots of Fire' again recently after many years, I went to the internet and looked up Eric Liddell to know more about him, and his extraordinary love and respect for God. I discovered that after his glorious Olympic win, he had a very difficult life in a POW camp in China. By all accounts he continued in that camp to live as a man of honour and integrity, always finding ways to assist and improve the lives of his fellow prisoners. He lived the life God wants us all to live, to be the best people we can be, in all ways. We do not always achieve this, however, with examples like Mr Liddell to inspire us when we stumble, we have our chance to make a better world for each other - just as he did.

Comment: Eric Liddell is still a burning light in the athletic world. His sportsmanship, talent and running fast for the God, he served, were an outward expression of his spirit and love for God and his neighbor. The film "Chariots of Fire" is one of my all time favorites. One of my children purchased the V.H.S. version ,and was profoundly moved by Eric Lidddell, 10 years later.
I loved to read that Allan Wells ,paid tribute to Eric Liddell, when he won the 100metres in Moscow. Generation after generation will pause to consider this remarkable man.

Comment: I find the story of Eric's life and dedication to others, truly encouraging. In this age of inane celebrity worship, I can only sincerely hope that there are still people of his stature about today. I hope that one day, I will be able to visit his last resting place in China, to pay my respects.

Comment: I first learned of Eric Liddell (of course) from the movie Chariots of Fire. What impressed upon me most however, was his unwavering devotion to God. Like many others like Mr. Liddell, he stands as a testament to all of us who believe and we are truly blessed by their example!

Comment: I saw the film Chariots of Fire several years ago. Somehow I thought about Eric today, did some searching on the Internet and ended up here. Here was a man who truly feared and loved God. We would all do well to emulate him--as I am sure you are striving to do at this Centre.
