Titled “Sacrifice,” the first of the three Great War memorial windows features Jesus being crucified. The scene portrays grieving women at the foot of the cross alongside the centurion and disciples, most probably in an effort to represent the mourning of those who had lost their loved ones in the war. The text likens the love of Christ for humanity that led him to lay down his life on our behalf to the love of the fallen on our behalf. “No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” John 15 v 13 |
