Award winning broadcaster and author, Sally Magnusson will be one of the stars joining an online broadcast celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Eric Liddell Centre (ELC) during the evening of Thursday, November 26th.
The Centre is an Edinburgh based care charity and community hub, providing specialist dementia support together with a Carers Programme and Befriending Service.
Sally has strong links with the ELC as she is the author of “The Flying Scotsman” a book about the life of Eric Liddell, the legendary runner who won a gold medal in the 1924 Olympic Games in Paris. Eric was the subject of the 1981 historical drama “Chariots of Fire”.
Additionally, Sally wrote about her mother’s journey living with dementia in a book entitled “Where Memories Go.”
After observing the effect of music on her mother’s dementia, Sally founded the Playlist for Life charity in 2013.
Commenting on the upcoming 40th anniversary, Sally said:
“It’s been a great pleasure to be involved with the inspirational Eric Liddell Centre over the years, both as founder of Playlist for Life and biographer of Eric Liddell. Forty years is a real milestone – and I can’t wait to take part in this joyous anniversary event. Please join us if you can.”
The ELC has been providing key support to vulnerable people across Edinburgh for 40 years and have been working successfully to change perceptions of living with dementia, disabilities and mental health issues.
Following recent developments and changes to national guidelines linked to COVID-19, the charity made the decision to cancel the plans for a physical gathering and instead organise an online event via Zoom.
The virtual event will feature an exciting range of internationally renowned speakers including Sally, internationally celebrated author and Patron of the Eric Liddell Centre, Alexander McCall Smith CBE and world-famous Scottish composer and conductor Sir James MacMillan. Joining in via a link from her home in Canada, Eric Liddell’s daughter Patricia Liddell Russell will also be there to talk about her inspirational father.
John MacMillan, Chief Executive of the Eric Liddell Centre said,
“I’m delighted that Sally, my brother Sir James and Alexander have kindly agreed to participate in our 40th Anniversary Celebration – it’s amazing that they will join us to celebrate the work and achievements of the Eric Liddell Centre over the last 40 years. It is going to be an evening to remember and we hope as many people as possible will join us in paying tribute to the invaluable work of the ELC and the inspirational Eric Liddell.”
The 40th Anniversary Celebration takes place on Thursday 26th November at 7.00pm virtually via Zoom. Tickets cost £40 per log on and are available to book via Eventbrite by visiting the link:
All monies received will support the ongoing delivery of the Eric Liddell Centre’s caring services. For further information, please contact Zsofia at molnarz@ericliddell.org
